Welcome Back, the sole big Hindi release of the week, has opened to a very good response at the box-office.
The film starring Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal from the first part, along with John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia this time, has earned approximately Rs 14.25 crore on day one. According to boxofficeindia.com, the business is very similar to that of ABCD 2 which holds the record of the second biggest opening of the year so far, having collected Rs 14.28 crore on day one. Once the exact numbers for first day collections of Welcome Back are out, we shall know if the film is the second or the third biggest opening of the year, so far.
Boxofficeindia.com further states that the business could have been higher but around 300 digital prints could not be uploaded at respective cinemas. Nevertheless, for a non-holiday opening day, the film has done quite encouraging business.
However, Welcome Back is a big-budget film. Also, the sequel does not star Akshay Kumar from the original, who is certainly a bigger crowd-puller than John Abraham. So the film has to continue to perform consistently at the box-office. But going by the positive opening day numbers, the business of the film holds promise for Saturday and Sunday.
