The strong audience response to David Dhawan’s latest comedy Main Tera Hero has sparked comparisons between the film’s hero Varun Dhawan and ‘ 90s superstar Govinda.
The film starring Varun with Nargis Fakhri and Illeana D’Cruz, has minted Rs.6.60 crore on its first day of release, and promises to emerge as a mass entertainer.
Varun as naughty, flirtatious and smartmouth stud Seenu in Main Tera Hero is being compared to David’s homegrown substitute to Govinda. ” Varun displayed a mix of Salman Khan and Govinda, which is a lethal combination. He has the good looks which match with Salman.
Shahid Kapoor in his previous two outings – Prabhu Dheva’s R… Rajkumar and Rajkumar Santoshi’s Phata Poster Nikala Hero also made an unsuccessful attempt to do a cool tapori act. Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh also tried to play to the gallery as local goons working in coal mines in the film, Gunday . Just two- films old, Varun made a debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year and is gearing up for Karan Johar’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya. ” Just watched mein tera hero!! It’s a laughter riot! (sic) David uncle is baccck with his new age govindavarun!! too good,” Sonakshi Sinha tweeted.
” Varun has simply displayed his naughty streak on screen, which he was been known for ever since he was a child,” says David, who has been getting appreciative response for the film starring his son. ” It’s not fair to compare him with Govinda, as Varun is way too young. Govinda is a legend who has worked in several hit films and ruled the screen for decades,” the senior Dhawan added. ” He is young and I hope he makes his own mark and develops a distinct style, which is important to survive,” David added.
David and Govinda jointly gave a series of hit comedy films including Hero No. 1, Haseena Maan Jayegi and Raja Babu. He
also contributed in shaping up Salman Khan’s career by casting him in a double role in the film Judwa, in 1997, when his career was going through a rough patch. ” I have always made films with my heart which worked with the audience. Earlier, the films were loud and a bit over- the- top, however, now the tone has become more casual with a hint of Western influence,” Dhawan added.
