#IStandWithSRK: Film fraternity backs Shah Rukh Khan in the intolerance debate

After being called a traitor, a Pakistani agent and what not, Shah Rukh Khan has maintained a staunch silence. But many celebrities have come out in support of King Khan..

Shah Rukh Khan who recently celebrated his 50th birthday two days back, had in an interview with a leading channel spoken openly about the religious intolerance prevalent in the country. Known to be a secular nation, Khan spoke strongly about maintaining the secularism that India is known for and hit out at all those who use such topics to discriminate between citizens.

It was only after Shah Rukh Khan told NDTV, “Religious intolerance is the worst thing and will take India to the dark ages,” that a protest was sparked against the Bollywood superstar. BJP General Secretary Mr Vijayvargiya remarked that although SRK lives in India, but ‘his heart is in Pakistan’. A day after BJP leader Vijayvargiya dubbed Shah Rukh Khan as ‘anti-nationalist’ over his comment on “extreme intolerance” in the country, controversial BJP MP Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday compared Bollywood actor with 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Following such distasteful comments, there has been huge outrage on digital platforms where SRK’s close friends from the industry and his fans and followers have condemned BJP’s statements and lashed out at the political leaders for making such an insensitive comment. Support also poured in from the film fraternity where celebrities like Anupam Kher, Aparna Sen, Vishal Dadlani and others took to Twitter to pledge their support for the Baadshah.

With more and more support puring in for SRK, #KailashVijayvargiyaLeaveIndia started trending too on social media. Now you know why you shouldn’t mess with SRK!
