Jacqueline, who made her Bollywood debut six years after Katrina, yet again proves it that beauty is taken more seriously than acting in Bollywood.
Just a few days after her film Bangistan hit the screens, newspapers and websites are inundated with reviews. While most critics more or less panned the film, calling it a “snoozefest” or a “plain disappointment”, one thing remains constant throughout these reviews – the no-mention of Jacqueline Fernandez. Her special appearance has been unable to find any special mention whatsoever.
Still riding high on the success of her 2014 hit Kick, she might be on a film-signing spree, but her last two decisions have proven near-fatal for this Sri Lankan beauty. Remember Roy? Well, actually no one does. However, the failure at the box office or her not-so-great acting skills are not working hazards for her.
The lethal combination of good looks and foreign nationality
Because, if you are from foreign shores, look quite pretty and can dance well, you can surely make it big in Bollywood. Does this ring a bell? Well, almost a decade ago, a girl was spotted by director Kaizad Gustad at a fashion show in London, and rest is history. Despite her broken Hindi, straight-faced acting and wooden expressions, Katrina Kaif is quite the reigning star in Bollywood.
And Jacqueline, who made her Bollywood debut six years after Katrina, yet again proves it that beauty is taken more seriously than acting in Bollywood. Despite an abysmal debut in films with Aladin a few years ago, Jacqueline has finally managed to find her feet in Bollywood now by banking on glamorous roles. A model, who had come to India for an assignment, landed a much-forgettable role in the 2009 Sujoy Ghosh film. In spite of that, there has been no looking back for this diva.
In a country with a fascination for fair-skinned girls, pretty looks can easily fill the void that lack of acting skills can create. And Katrina and Jacqueline prove it. A 15-minute stint for the much-required romantic angle – with some naach-gaana and a handful of beautiful close-ups, and these actors are sorted in Bollywood.
The Khan connect is a must
More than this, backing by a superstar (more often than not a Khan) is a must to survive in Bollywood. And for both Jacqueline and Katrina, Salman Khan has been the common thread that worked wonders for their respective careers. After a debacle like Boom, Katrina finally got the much-needed push from Salman to bag good roles and films in Bollywood: The perks of being the love interest of as big a star as Salman. From Namastey London to Race to Welcome to Ek Tha Tiger, Katrina has given innumerable hits at the box office one after the other – despite no real effort from her.
And even if you are not real-life lovebirds, just a rocking on-screen chemistry can help your career take a complete U-turn. After being a part of a handful of multi-starrers, Jacqueline finally tasted success as a solo actor opposite Salman in the 2014 blockbuster Kick. The entertainer not just set the box office on fire, but also made Jacqueline the queen of the Rs 200-crore club.
Hit the bull’s eye and bask in future glory
After the smashing success of Kick at the cash registers, there has been no looking back for Jacqueline. A face, often wedged between other actors in multi-starrers, finally grabbed eyeballs with the big-budget Kick. And thus began her real journey in Bollywood. From big banner films to big stars, the 29-year-old has got all tucked under her belt. She will next be seen in Dharma Productions’ Brothers opposite Akshay Kumar. However, deviating from the usual glamorous roles, Jacqueline will play the role of a mother in this action-drama, which releases on August 14.
Apart from Brothers, Jacqueline has also landed a role in Rohit Dhawan’s next Dishoom, starring John Abraham and Varun Dhawan. The actor has already wrapped up the second schedule of the film in Morocco. The list doesn’t stop here. And as a further boost to her career graph, she will also been seen romancing Tiger Shroff in Remo D’Souza’s next superhero film, The Flying Jat (The Flying Sikh). And if reports are to be believed, the Sri Lankan beauty will yet again reunite with Akshay for Housefull 3.
With some promising scripts in her kitty and taking a cue from none other than Katrina Kaif, it seems Jacqueline is all set to become the next big thing in Bollywood.
